R. Dean Vandall

It is with a heavy heart that we must report ot you the passing of our President,  
R. Dean Vandall on October 21st, 2007 in St. Joseph, Michigan.  No one in our  
family had a greater vision of the importance of remembering our heritage. Since
becoming our President in 1995, he did all that he could to try to encourage us to
reach out to all descendents of Abraham and Mary Vandal, making them feel as 
if they are part of a very special family.  He will be sorely missed by all of his      
many cousins.                                                                                                       
Dean was the first of four children born to Charles Roy and Reatha Vandall.  He
attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana and had a career in automotive  
parts as parts director for two dealerships which had seven new car Franchises.   

R. Dean Vandall was the son of Charles Roy and Reatha Vandall.

Chuck Hield and Louise Crowe



Chuck Hield (our family historian) and Louise Crowe were married on May 27th, 2006 in Arlington, Texas.  Louise had lost her first husband, Jim, of 44 years in 2004 and Chuck
lost his wife of 45 years, Edith, in 2003.  Louise is from The Hague, The Netherlands     
 where they hope to visit in 2007.  For their honeymoon they traveled for four months in
Colorado in their RV.                                                                                                     

Chuck is the son of Charles Raymond and Nita (Vandel) Hield.

Ashton Lee Lowe

Ashton Lee Lowe, age 1 of Smithfield, PA, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2006.
Ashton was born on August 13, 2005 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of William H. Lowe 
and Becky Louise Guthrie.  Interment was in the Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery,           
Masontown, PA.                                                                                                        

Ashton is the son of William Harvey Lowe and Becky Guthrie.

Charles Wayne Vandall and Sharon Maddy Phipps were united in marriage on
Saturday, September 20, 2003 in Jumping Branch, West Virginia.  The double
ring ceremony was performed by Preacher Dennis Williams and was held
under an arbor which was decorated for the occasion with flowers, bows and
white tulle.
 
Charles is the son of Charles Edgar Vandall and Mary Elizabeth Ayers.

James W. Bailes, 88, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003.  Born October 7,
1914, at Lockwood, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Lewis and
Elizabeth Hamon Bailes.  Mr. Bailes was a retired coal miner and a
member of Carlisle Church of God.  He was the husband of Glenna Jean
Vandell Bailes who is the daughter of Quilla and Ninevah Vandell.
She is the Grandaughter of John Henry and Margaret Vandall.

Glenna Vandall Bailes

  Glenna Vandall Bailes, 94, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2003 at
Hilltop Nursing Home following a short illness.  Born Jan. 25, 1909 at
Layland, West Virginia, she was a homemaker and owned and operated
Hilltop Personal Care for nine years.  She was a member of the Carlisle
Church of God.  Her husband, James William Bailes, preceded her in
death (above).

Maria G. (Lupita) Vandall passed away on July 30th, 2003 at the age of
65.  She was the beloved wife of Harvey Russell Vandall Jr.

Edith Buehler Hield
 
Edith Buehler Hield passed away on October 6, 2003 in Fort Worth,
Texas.  She was born on July 24, 1933 in Ansbach, Germany and met
Chuck Hield when he was stationed there in the Army.  They married
later in Independence, Missouri where she owned her own beauty   
shop, the Lovely Lady Style Salon.  She was devoted to her family  
and nurtured the love that binds them so closely together. Her          
husband, Chuck Hield, is the son of Charles and Nita Vandel Hield.

Neal Mack
 
Neal Mack, the husband of Ann Mack (our 2003 Reunion
coordinator) passed away on October 20, 2003.  Neal was born
June 4, 1953 and was raised in Brookfield, Wisconsin.  He lived
in Indianola for 13 years before moving to West Des Moines in
1989.  He earned his Bachelor's degree in Business from the
University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.  He completed the
Athletic Trainer program at Simpson College and went on to
earn NATA Bboard Certification.  He had been an athletic
trainer since 1987.  Neal worked at Meredith/Burda and RR
Donnelley Printing for 17 years.  He was employed by the
Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center at DMOS in West
Des Moines for the last nine years.  He was the Valley High
School head Athletic Trainer since 1990 and the Coordinator
of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Services for Iowa
Health Systems in Des Moines.  He was co-owner of RIP CITY
Indoor Softball Training Facility in West Des Moines.  Neal
was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

His wife, Ann Crooks Mack is the daughter of Wilford and
Ruby Vandell Crooks.

Virginia Lee Wheeler Reed passed away on May 10, 2000.
She was an executive secretary all of her working life, her last
job being with the Board of Regents for West Virginia colleges

Scott Vandall, 41, of Tampa passed away on Monday, October 7, 2002.
Mr. Vandall was a native of Lakeland, Flroida and worked as an
automobile repossessor in the auto sales industry.

Freddy Vandeale

Freddy Vandaele, born 11 October, 1947, died April 2, 2002.  Freddy has been our
Belgium contact for several years now.  He and our Family Historian have been
trying unseccessfully to figure out if there is a connection between our Netherlands
ancestor, Evert Janse Wendell, and his Vandaele ancestors.  Perhaps sometime in
the future we will be able to establish the link.  Some of his family sent us a death
notice since they knew he had been working with us.  We are sad to hear of his
passing.

James Erickson Wolford

James Erickson Wolford, 83, the husband of JeanVandale Wolford, died May 9,
2002 in Tucson, Arizona.
James was born May 7, 1919 in Giles and lived in Charleston most of his life.
He was a former owner of Electronic Specily Co., anr of Hurricane; also a World
War II veteran of the Navy.  James retired 22 years ago and moved to Tucson.

Diana L. Harrah

Diana Lynn Vandall Harrah, 48, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001.  Born August 3,
1952 in Hinton, WV, she was the daughter of Cecil "Tom" and Winnie Gwinn
Vandall of Meadow Bridge.
Mrs. Harrah was a 1970 graduate of Sandstone High School and a member of
Lane United Methodist Church.  She was employed by Massie Insurance
Agency in Hinton.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Summers and Lou
Gwinn and her paternal grandparents, William and Cynthis Vandall.

Charles Orren Vandall

Charles Orren Vandall, 80, of Oak Hill, WV died Sunday April 12, 1998 at an
Oak Hill hospital following a long illness.  Born October 8, 1917 at Backus
Mountain, he was the son of the late Samuel D. and Cora Alice Eagle Vandall.
Mr. Vandall was a retired coal miner of New River Company, a retired
electrician with Gibson Electric and a member of the UMWA District 17.

Samuel "Bill" Vandall Jr.

Samuel William "Bill" Vandall Jr., 69, of Stanaford, WV went to be with his
Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2002 at his home following a long illness.
Born January 1, 1933 at Laurel Creek, WV he was the son of the late
Samuel William Sr. and Bernice Harrah Vandall.
Mr. Vandall was a retired coal miner and a member of Hilltop Baptist
Church where he was a deacon and teacher.  He was an avid deer hunter
and fisherman.  He was a U.W. Air Force veteran having served in the
Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service
Medal with two Bronze stars and the National Defense Service Medal.

Cecil David Vandall

Cecil David Vandall, 77, of Meadow Bridge died at home Tuesday, July2, 2001.
Born September 25, 1923 at Elton, he was the son of the late William and Cynthia
Gwinn Vandall.
He was a disabled coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers, District 29,
and a member of Lane Church of Christ.
Mr. Vandall was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Harrah, a sister, Sylvia
and two brothers, Grady and Calvin.

Anna Hean Porterfield-Vandall

Anna Hean Porterfield-Vandall died October 28, 2001 at her home in Crystal
River, Florida.  Wife of Coy Bradly Vandall Sr., mother of five, grandmother of
twelve, and great grandmother of four.  She was buried on October 31, 2001 at
Indian Hills Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.  At age 73, her fight with Lou Gehrig's disease was over.

Margaret T. Vandall

Margatet Therese Vandall, age 53 of Elkhart, Indiana, died on Thursday,
September 27th in Elkhart General Hospital.  Margaret had resided in the Elkhart
area since 1966 coming from Allegan, Michigan.  She was born on April 9, 1948 in
Allegan to John and Beatrice (Waldron) Zugel.  Her parents and her brother,
Joseph John Zugel preceded her in death.
On March 31, 1973, in Walkerton, Indiana, she married R. Dean Vandall.
He survives along with three sons; R. Dean Jr. (Bill Liskow) Vandall of South
Bend; Thomas Lee Charles (Lesa) Vandall and Jason Anthony (Katie) Vandall,
both of Mishawaka, Indiana; four grandchildren: Dakota, Casidhe, Stephanie
and Shannon.
Margaret enjoyed golf, traveling, reading, art and devoted much of her time to
organizing and helping her entire family.

June Vandale Varda

June Vandale Varda, 78 of Spencer, WV, died July 27, 2001 at the Roane General  Hospital, Spencer.  She was born June 24, 1923 in Roane County, a daughter of the
founder of Vandale Funeral Home, the late Fred E. Vandale and Leila Hardman
Vandale.  She was president of the McIntosh hardware, a graduate of Spencer
High School Class of 1941, a homemaker, and a former Cub Scout teacher and
catechism class teacher.  She was formerly active in the Junior Womens Club and
was an active member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

James Lacy Vandell

James Lacy Vandell passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at his home.  He
was born on August 3, 1914 in Meadow Bridge, WV.  He was a resident of
Hemphill for many years.  He ws formerly employed by the Consolidation
Coal Company as a mine foreman with 50 years of service in the mining
industry.  He will be greatly missed by his extended Vandal family.

"Lucille "Tuddie" Pannell Vandall, 76, of Ravenswood, Jackson County, departed this
life 14 March 2001 in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, WV, following an extended
illness.  Burial was in the Jackson County Memory Gerdens, Cottageville, WV."

Elizabeth E. Thompson

Elizabeth Eden Vandall Thompson, 87, of Lorain, Ohio, formerly of Carlisle, died Saturday, May 27, 2000 at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a lingering illness.
Born June 4, 1912 in Layland, she was the daughter of the late Quilla and Nineveh
Arthur Vandall.  Mrs. Thompson was a retired seamstress and a 40 year member of
Broadway Assembly Church, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, and worked with arts and crafts in the church.  She was preceded in death by her
husband, Charles Alfred Thompson, on June 28, 1990; a daughter, Loma Thompson
in September, 1999.

Geneva E. Hicks

Geneva E. Hieks, 85, formerly of Elton, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 in the Ripley Care Center following a short illness.  Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Elton, WV, she was the
daughter of the late Ernest P. and Mattie Hedrick Vandall.
Mrs. Hicks was a charter member of the Elton Community Church.  She was
preceeded in death by her husband, Harry H. Hicks Sr.

James L. Vandall

James Lloyd Vandall, 68, of Hix, WV died May 9, 2000 at his home following a
sudden illness.  Born Jan. 25, 1936 in Sandstone, he was the son of the late Earl and Ina Taylor Vandall.  Mr. Vandall was a retired heavy equipment operator and a
member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 132.  He was
a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was also a member of the Princeton
Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles, and of the Baptist faith.

Grace I. Adkins
Grace I. Adkins, 76, of Walkerton, Ind., passed away on  Feb. l, 2000 in South Bend, Ind.  Grace was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Meadow Bridge, WV t Clerven H and Nora E.
(Zickafoose) Vandall, and had lived in Walkerton for 36 years, coming from Chicago,
Ill.  She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Walkerton.
On Aug. 20, 1940, in Cattlesburg, KY, she was married to Herman C. Adkins, who     preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1986.

Cecile G. Morgan

Cecile Grace Morgan, 100, of Mineral Wells, WV died March 22, 2000 at the
Willows Nursing Home.  She was born in Fulls Fork, Wirt County, a daughter of the
late Leander and Fannie Fern Nuzum Vandal.  She had formerly taught school in
Wirt County and assisted her husband while he served as assessor in Wirt County.
She was a member and former pianist for Big Tygart United Methodist Church and
was active in the United Methodist Women.  She was a founder and member of the
Saulsbury Homemakers Club and served as a grandmother to the Saulsbury 4-H
Club.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Walker Morgan in 1968
and three sisters.

Benjamin Vandall

Brief funeral services for Thomas Benjamin Vandall, 92, Summers County's last
surviving veteran of the War Between the States, were held at the Meadows
Funeral Parlor after his death on January 9, 1940.  Services were held under the
auspices of the Hinton chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  The
coffin of the aged veteran was dracped in the flag of the Confederacy.
Mr. Vandall was born at Montcoal, WV on June 13, 1848.  At the age of 17 he
enlisted in the Confererate army, being stationed first with the Wallace battalion
at Richmond, VA and later with Company Ca at Charlottesville, VA.

LOWE - COYLE
David Eugene Coyle and Susan Elizabeth Lowe were married December
11, 1999 at Allen Park Church of Christ by Glenn Martin, Minister, in Allen Park,
Michigan.
The Bride is the daughter of Robert L. and Frances M.V. Lowe of
Dearborn, Michigan.  The Bridegroom is the son of Randy and Debra Coyle of
Elkhart, Indiana.
The bride is a 1996 graduate of Fordson High School.  She attended the
University of Michigan-Dearborn and now attends Ivy Tech, working on an             accounting degree.  She is a member of Fort Dearborn Children of the                     American Revolution and a member of the Colonel Joshua Howard Chapter,
Daughters of   the American Revolution.  Also a member of the Dearborn Ice
Skating Club, the Bridegroom is a 1995 graduate of Concord High School.  He is    attending Purdue  University working on his engineering degree.
The Bride is an inventory control clerk at Utilimaster.  Hr husband is a
process technician at Utilimaster.

Ella Sue (Henderson) Vandall

Ella S. Vandall, 97, of Marmet died December 15, 1999 in Montgomery General
Elderly Care after a long illness.  She was a member of Marmet Church of the
Nazarene.
Surviving sons, Joe of Ravenswood; Preston of Pratt; daughter, Ruby Joy
Schofield of Macedonia, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 14
great-great-grandchildren.
She was born December 5, 1902, in Henderson, KY.  Her husband was
Thurmond Vandall.

James W. Vandall

James William Vandall, 74, of Gradley, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at his
home following a short illness.  Born March 7, 1925, in Meadow Creek, he
was the son of the late Wilbur "Chip" and Annie Clements Vandall.
Mr. Vandall was a retired coal miner, a member of Bradley Presbyterian
Church and the UMWA.   He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps
veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Margie Jewell Vandall, on
Feb. 9, 1998, two brothers, Wilbur "Buster" Vandall and Jessie Vandall,
and a sister, Pauline Berry.
Survivors include a son, David Vandall of Bradley; a daughter, Linda
Moore of Reisterstown, MD; three brothers, Robert Vandall of Beloit,
Ohio; Chester A. Vandall of Bradley and Tom Vandall of Beckley; three
sisters, Wanda McMillion of Bradley,; Hester Holliday of Beckley and Ruth
Snuffer of Bradley; two grand-children, Eric Vandall of Bradley and Keishe
Maldonado of Baltimore; and a great-grandson, Tyler James Vandall of
Bradley

  Russel Ray Keller
     Russel Ray Keller, second son of Guy Dean and Lois Marie Vandel Keller was born on April 12, 1951 in Leon, Iowa and died of injuries sustained in a  car accident near              Raleigh, North Carolina July 19, 1999 where he made his home
     Russel graduated from Central Decatur High School in Leon, Iowa in 1969.  He served in the United States Army overseas in Viet Nam from March 24, 1971 to April 8, 1972    when he received an honorable discharge.  He worked with his dad doing plumbing and   construction work for awile after he got out of the army.
Russel married Loretta Mae Northway on May 18, 1974 in Lamoni, Iowa and to this
union three children were born, Kimberly Dawn Keller, Daniel Guy Keller and David     Russel Keller.
He graduated from Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa on May 13, 1977.  He worked as a computer programer of the IBM Co. in Binghamton, NY, Charlotte, NC    and Raleigh NC.  While living in Cary he was granted a lifetime membership in the VFW
in Cary because of his tireless voluntry service with the organization.

Robert Ellison

Some sad news from the Vandall's of Pittsburgh.  Uncle Bob (Robert Ellison, husband of Peggy Vandall, father of Bobby and Patty) died on October 28, 1999.  Aunt Peg (Evelyn  Margaret Vandall) is my dad's sister.  That puts her in your fifth generation group.  Their father was John Marshall Vandall married to Eva Forsythe.

their wives, Allen and Shirley Vandel, Springfield, and Dr. Jerry
and Diana Vandel, Austin, TX; a daughter and her husband,
Marilyn and Bryan Schempf, Poguoson, VA; grandsons, Darin
Vandel and Jeremy Vandel; granddaughters, Lorrie Mackey,
Cara Vandel, Allison Schempf, and Laura Schempf; 7 great-
grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Boyd, Houston, TX: and a
host of other relatives and friends.
