16. Evert Janse WENDELL Sr.10 was born about 1615 in Emdon, East Friesland, Hannover, Prussia.8 He died about 1709 in Albany, Albany, New York.8 !From the Vandal Newsletter, October, 1986.
Evert Janse Wandell was the son of Jan Wandell and Tyssien Hendricks. He came
to New Amsterdam (now New York City) in 1642 for the Dutch West Indies Company
to trade with the Indians. He moved to Fort Orange (now Albany) in 1646,
residing there until his death.
He was controlling elder of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church in Albany,
and the Crest, representing his origins (his father was a Dutch merchant ship
Captain), was incorporated in one of the stained glass windows of that church.
Married three times, Evert had eleven children, eight by his first wife,
Suzanne DuTrieux, and three by his second wife, Maritje Van Deursen (who was
the widow of Thomas Janse Mingael).

Evert Jansen Wendell's occupation was in Cooper, a Fur Trader and a Magistrate.
In one record his surname is spelled "Wendel". He was an orphan (this does
not agree with October, 1986 Vandal Newsletter above). He was in the service
of the Dutch West India Company in 1640 and a master in 1657. He came to
America in 1640 and to Ft. Orange in 1651. He was buried under the old church
then standing at the corner of Yonker and Handelser Streets, present day State
and Broadway, in Albany.

First Church in Albany, N.Y.
The stained glass window with the family crest was removed when the church was torn
down to make way for a city office building. When the family moved to Concord, N.H., the
window went with them but is now not to be found. Evert Janse WENDELL Sr. and Susanna DU TRIEUX were married on 31 Jul 1644 in New Amsterdam, , New York.11

Thomas Wendel, son of Evert, resided in New Amsterdam until the death of his father in 1702, owned a lot on Stone street, another on Broad street and one on Pearl street between old slip and Broad street.
