Johannes Wendell was a Justice of the Peace and Mayor of Albany, New york and
a large land owner. His death occurred between November 11, 1691 and February
20, 1692, which apparently was the date his will was probated.

Johannes lived upon the Yonker Street (or present State Street) in the city of Albany. He was successful and prosperous in his affairs, becoming a wealthy merchant and achieving a very considerable degree of prominence in the Colony. He controlled extensive tracts of land along the Mohawk Valley, also in the vicinity of present Saratoga.

Johannes Wendell's lot was on the south side of State stree, the third west of Pearl. He was justice of peace 1684, 1685, commissioned captain; 1690 commissioned with others to treat with the Five Nations and superintend affairs relating to the defense of Albany.

There is no official record by the city of Albany that Johannes Wendell was ever mayor of the city. Johannes WENDELL Capt. and Anna Elizabeth STAATS were married.

Elizabeth Staats reportedly had five children by her first husband. However,
considering the date given for her first marriage and the date of the baptism
of her first child by her second husband, this seems questionable, unless she
had some of her children prior to marrying, or that she had one or more
multiple births.
Indeed, it is possible that some of the children listed as being born to her
and her second husband, but without birth or baptismal dates being given, were
actually children from her first marriage whom her second husband adopted. Children were:
