She is the daughter of Johann Georg (Hans) and S 2 CONC ofie 2 CONT Engert Buehler. When she was very small, her grandfather called her "M 2 CONC ausi", meaning something small and playfull. This name was her family n 2 CONC ickname all through her life. 2 CONT In 1938 she moved with her family to Geislingen in the State 2 CONT of Wuerttemberg where she attended school. 2 CONT Their town was not heavily bombarded during World War II but did 2 CONT experience ground skirmishes. Whenever there were air craft alarms, sh 2 CONC e and 2 CONT her family would spend many hours hiding in the cellar of their home an 2 CONC d in 2 CONT bunkers that were located inside mountains surrounding the city. Since t 2 CONC heir 2 CONT home had a restaurant on the ground floor, their entire building was ta 2 CONC ken 2 CONT over by an American Army Battalion to be used as their mess hall. Her f 2 CONC amily 2 CONT had to move in with neighbors and leave all their belongings behind. F 2 CONC ood was 2 CONT extremely scarce and they had to exist on only a little bread and potat 2 CONC oes 2 CONT each day. Standing in a line at a grocery store one day, Edith was almo 2 CONC st 2 CONT killed by a low flying American aircraft that was straffing civilians o 2 CONC n the 2 CONT street. 2 CONT Following the war, when jobs were scarce, she worked for one year i 2 CONC n a 2 CONT steel factory until she was able to find an opening in her chosen profe 2 CONC ssion 2 CONT as a beautician. She trained for three years in this profession which 2 CONT included a combination of schooling and apprenticeship and eventually w 2 CONC ent to 2 CONT a Masters Beautician School in Hamburg for six months where she receive 2 CONC d an advanced diploma. 2 CONT In 1957, she moved with her family again, this time to the town of 2 CONT Goeppingen, Wuerttemberg. There is where Edith and her entire family, 2 CONT including her grandmother, became acquainted with Chuck Hield who was 2 CONT stationed at the former German Kaserne in town. He and a friend of his w 2 CONC ere 2 CONT invited for a Christmas dinner and became friends of the family. Late 2 CONC r, 2 CONT after the Army allowed Chuck to grow out his crew cut and get some civi 2 CONC lian 2 CONT clothes, Edith was allowed to go out with him on dates. They fell in l 2 CONC ove and 2 CONT were engaged after six months. 2 CONT Following his discharge from the Army, Chuck returned to the State 2 CONC s alone 2 CONT and found a job. Edith traveled to the States six months later on the 2 CONT passenger ship "United States" and was met in New York City by Chuck's m 2 CONC other and his Aunt Vera Coffman since he was unable to get any free tim 2 CONC e from his new job. About six weeks after her arrival, they were marri 2 CONC ed in 2 CONT Independence, Missouri on June 5, 1958 by Henry Shaeffer, a German born m 2 CONC inister. The ceremony was done in both English and German, a tape reco 2 CONC rding was made and sent to her parents in Germany. 2 CONT The same year that they were married, Edith opened her own Beauty s 2 CONC hop, the Lovely Lady Style Salon, in Independence. She didn't speak En 2 CONC glish very well yet but her excellent training brought in more customer 2 CONC s than she could handle. Even though she trained other beauticians in h 2 CONC er skill, most of her customers would always insist on Edith doing the s 2 CONC tyling. 2 CONT In addition to being an exceptionally talented beautician she was a 2 CONC lso an excellent seamstress, sewing many clothes for herself and her da 2 CONC ughter, Sabina, besides making beautiful drapes for each house that the 2 CONC y lived in over the years. She is also remembered for being a wonderfu 2 CONC l cook, especially of her beloved German cuisine. Her musical tastes w 2 CONC ere strictly classical, having little tolerance for any other style. M 2 CONC ozart was her favorite composer. 2 CONT Her two children, Steven and Sabina, were born in Independence in 1 2 CONC 962 2 CONT and 1965. The family was transfered by Chuck's company to Memphis, TN, S 2 CONC an 2 CONT Jose, CA and finally to Arlington, TX. During the last five years of h 2 CONC er life, she and Chuck traveled all over the United States in their 5th w 2 CONC heel RV during the summer months. She especially loved traveling in th 2 CONC e mountains since they reminded her so much of her home land. 1 BIRT 2 DATE 24 JUL 1933 2 PLAC Ansbach, Mittelfranken, Bavaria, Germany 2 SOUR @S77@ 1 DEAT 2 CAUS Diabetes complications and liver cancer 2 DATE 6 OCT 2003 2 PLAC Fort Worth, Tarrant, Texas 2 SOUR @S77@ 1 BURI 2 DATE 11 OCT 2003 2 PLAC Independence, Jackson, Missouri 2 SOUR @S77@ 1 FAMS @F1@ 0 @I3@ INDI 1 NAME Steven Michael /Hield/ 2 GIVN Steven Michael 2 SURN Hield 1 SEX M 1 _UID A4A608F0067ED5118B3A8D07F060D2598073 1 CHAN 2 DATE 21 Dec 2006 1 FAMS @F4@ 1 FAMC @F1@ 0 @I4@ INDI 1 NAME Sabina Michelle /Hield/ 2 GIVN Sabina Michelle 2 SURN Hield 1 SEX F 1 _UID A6A608F0067ED5118B3A8D07F060D2598293 1 CHAN 2 DATE 22 Jan 2008 1 FAMS @F5@ 1 FAMC @F1@ 0 @I5@ INDI 1 NAME Charles Raymond /Hield/ 2 NPFX Rev. 2 GIVN Charles Raymond 2 SURN Hield 2 NICK Chuck 1 SEX M 1 _UID A8A608F0067ED5118B3A8D07F060D25984B3 1 CHAN 2 DATE 22 Jan 2008 1 NOTE !From personal papers of Charles Raymond Hield as transcribed by Charle 2 CONC s 2 CONT Robert Hield - 1995. 2 CONT 2 CONT Charles Raymond Hield was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on August 11, 1 2 CONC 896, 2 CONT the third son of Norman Edward and Susan Effie Woodstock Hield.
