71. John Ligon MASTERSON was born about Oct 1843 in Mt. Cove, Fayette, Virginia. He died on 24 Mar 1910 in Los Angeles, , California. He was buried in Los Angeles, , California. !From the Vandal Newsletter of April, 1990.
John Ligon was born in 1842 in Fayette County, Virginia. He married Gertrude
Westlake and the couple had two sons, Thomas Vandal Masterson and Harry Lester
Masterson, both born in Iowa before the family settled in Smith County,
Kansas, in 1872.
John divorced Gertrude in 1875 for desertion, and Thomas stayed with his
father. Harry went with his mother to Missouri, where her parents had settled.
Both John and Gertrude remarried and had children by their second spouses.
John and his second wife, Mary Lou Ella Dean, with their older children and
"Louella's" parents, sold their farm property in Smith County and resettled in
Douglas County, Kansas, near the town of Lecompton, where they farmed until
1901. John developed life-threatening asthma, and Luella took him to Los
Angeles, California, where the improvement in climate permitted him to live
another nine years until 1910 when he passed away.
