Mary Alice (Robinson) Vandel was born in the community of Cleopatra, Missouri
on January 2, 1902. Alice was united in marriage to Thomas Frederick Vandel
on April 6, 1927. She was a graduate of Powersville High School and attended
the Kirksville Teacher's College, where she received her teaching certificate
and taught school for four years in local rural schools. She also was
employed as manager of the Monroe Manor Boarding Home in Unionville, Missouri,
from 1969 until 1975. She enjoyed sewing, china doll making, quilting, and
working on genealogy in her spare time.
Alice lived most of her life in the Mercer, Missouri community, where she was
a member of the United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist
Women's Felloship. She also was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for
several years, and a charter member of the Mercer County Genealogical Society,
and longtime member of the Somersett Club in Mercer County.
Alice was affectionately known by many in the Mercer community as "Grandma
Alice". She passed away on April 9, 1996 in Trenton, Missouri at the age
of
94 years and was buried in the the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, Iowa.
